May is always an exciting time for Brighton, as the huge creative hub that thrives here, explodes throughout the city. It kicked off at the weekend with the Artist Open Houses, which runs for 5 weekends, including 2 bank holidays during May. There are 196 houses involved this year, with 12,000 plus artists exhibiting their work of painting, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. It’s the perfect time to grab a great piece of artwork and to make it easier the lovely organisers have planned trails for you to follow around Brighton and Hove. Fringe begins on Friday 6th through to the 5th June and there’s a mountain of events to choose from, over 900. As always more than 50% of the talent are based in Brighton & Hove and the good news is Fringe keep the tickets pretty low in price as part of their ethos, averaging at £10 each. You can pick up a guide and have a browse at any number of pubs or coffee places in Brighton or pop onto their website at www.brightonfringe.org .
Lastly but certainly not least The Great Escape is on slap bang in the middle of May (19th-21st). It showcases 450 international artists over the 3 days covering most venues in Brighton. It is a fantastic opportunity to see upcoming new talent and it attracts a huge amount of visitors.
